About Emily Singler, VMD, R-PLC

Dr. Emily Singler is a 2001 graduate of Penn State University and a 2005 graduate of University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. She has navigated five pregnancies while working in veterinary clinical practice and has been a working mom throughout the majority of her tenure as a veterinarian.   She is also a certified RETAIN parental leave coach.

Emily’s career in veterinary medicine has included experience in shelter medicine, private practice, relief, and mobile practice.  She currently works as a veterinary writer, consultant, and mentor and offers coaching and consulting services to individuals and employers to improve the workplace experience for working parents in vet med.

Emily wrote Pregnancy and Postpartum Considerations for the Veterinary Team, which was published by CRC Press in November 2023. She has spoken both virtually and in person on working in veterinary medicine through pregnancy and beyond, with an emphasis on navigating workplace hazards, workplace protections against discrimination, planning parental leave, and returning to work.

Emily is a mom of four kids, two dogs and one cat. She enjoys spending time with her husband and kids, and she loves horseback riding and all things llama and alpaca. She is learning to embrace the chaos of having a big family and finds solace in connecting with others and eating chocolate.
